"Cleanliness on the decline" By Blandina

Singapore used to be a clean and green city. I agree that the cleanliness in Singapore is on the decline due to the increase in litter in our environment. More and more litters can be seen on the ground and nobody seems to notice its existence. Very few people would take the initiative to pick up the litter when they see it lying on the ground. The rest of us just cannot be bothered about the litter as we feel that it is not our job to go around picking up the litters. Singaporeans are also afraid of getting our hands dirty. It is important for us to be responsible for our country’s cleanliness and not rely heavily on cleaners.
Think about how it would affect our environment if more people like you and me start to litter? Yuck! There will be an increase in pests and people would start to fall sick due to the poor hygiene.  Singapore would no longer be known as a ‘clean and green city’. Tourists will have a bad impression of Singapore’s cleanliness which will affect Singapore’s image as a popular tourist hub.
I feel that everyone should make a conscious effort in keeping our country clean. We have been taught since young not to litter. It is important for us to practice such habits and lead a good example to our younger ones. Litter should only be thrown into rubbish bins and not be seen lying around. If Singaporeans do not keep Singapore clean, who is going to do it for us?  Hence, every Singaporean should play a part in keeping Singapore clean and together, we can make a difference.
